Great session at The Riverfront with Miguel Fernandes, Maria Brunello and Andrea Battaggia of Ballet Cymru yesterday, including some beautiful improvisation extending an early passage from the company’s current production of Romeo a Juliet. Staying in character as Mercutio, Benvolio and Romeo (respectively), the dancers continued the flow of movement created by the piece's choreography, finding new patterns and poses that we could play with. A really interesting process.
Many thanks to Maria, Andrea and Miguel, and the The Riverfront for letting us use their space..
Sketches seem promising. Hopefully paintings to follow.
This work is part of my ongoing Arts Council of Wales-funded project Painting Dance, leading to exhibitions in Snowdonia and Cardiff later this year.
