Realising that it would require me to paint a likeness less than 2cm in size, I regretted this pose in the first five minutes of starting this painting. Thinking James would soon regret it too as discomfort set in, I expected that we would abandon it and set up something new. He held the position for about four hours, obliging me to keep going.
